Girardi is the undisputed dean of the Southern California plaintiffs’ bar. He has handled some of the biggest toxic tort, product liability and personal injury cases in the nation over the past 50 years. He became more widely known to the public in 2000 when the movie “Erin Brockovich” highlighted his litigation against Pacific Gas & Electricity Co. over groundwater contamination in Hinkley.
Girardi is currently co-lead trial counsel in the Porter Ranch gas leak cases that involve 38,000 plaintiffs. A massive leak in 2015 at the Southern California Gas Co. natural gas storage facility in Aliso Canyon released 97,000 tons of methane and 7,000 tons of ethane into the atmosphere.
Girardi also sued Johnson & Johnson Corp. over Risperdal, a drug administered for psychological illness such as bipolar disorder. But the plaintiffs allege it can alter hormonal imbalances in men, in some cases causing them to grow breasts.
