Kerry Garvis Wright

Garvis Wright has tackled an array of labor and employment matters - from investigations to litigation to COVID-19 issues.

"You never get the same fact pattern twice," said Garvis Wright, who chairs the labor & employment department at Glaser Weil.

"Just when I tell my clients, 'I've seen it all, I've heard it all' -- I haven't. There's a lot of good labor employment lawyers can do."

By virtue of living in Hollywood, she had an interesting roster of clients in the entertainment industry.

"I can't imagine doing anything else," said Garvis Wright.

Her litigation experience with sexual harassment, gender-based and other discrimination claims allows Garvis Wright to handle cases spurred by the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. She's also investigated workplace misconduct allegations.

And in the midst of a pandemic, Garvis Wright said her clients are especially in need of counseling and advice. "It's rapid fire - there's so much information," she added. "I feel I'm being of value and service."

One client is Mike Guirguis, a former talent manager for R&B star Chris Brown. Guirguis, known as Mike G, filed a lawsuit in 2016 alleging Brown assaulted him. Guirguis et al. v. Christopher Brown BC624842 (L. A. Super. Ct. filed June 23, 2016).

The case settled confidentially last summer.

Garvis Wright described her introduction to labor and employment law as "a happy accident." After practicing in Chicago, Garvis Wright headed to Los Angeles. One of her first cases in the labor realm involved representing Bob Barker, the "Price Is Right" host accused of sexual harassment in the 1990s.

"If they're my clients, they are like everybody else," she said. "Maybe the stakes are a little bit higher, but the problem is the same: It becomes a bit more complex, because you have to be concerned with publicity. I have to deal with the problem holistically."
