• AB 546 (Maienschein) Expands the list of information, documents, and services that a county welfare department, at the last review hearing prior to a youth’s 18th birthday and at every regularly scheduled hearing thereafter, as well as prior to the termination of dependency jurisdiction, must report to the court its progress in providing to the youth to include whether referrals to transitional housing have resulted in housing being secured for the minor or nonminor, and, if not, what, if any, different or additional referrals or assistance the department has provided that are intended to secure housing; the duration of the housing, if known to the department; and, if applicable, information, including summaries, describing additional referrals, assistance, or services provided by county departments or agencies other than the county welfare department that are intended to prevent the youth from becoming homeless if jurisdiction is terminated. act to amend Section 391 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, relating to juveniles.

• AB 624 (Bauer-Kahan) This bill authorizes immediate appellate review of an order transferring a minor from the juvenile court to a court of criminal jurisdiction if a notice of appeal is filed within 30 days of the transfer order. act to add Section 801 to the Welfare and Institutions Code, relating to juveniles.

• AB 841 (Cunningham) Prohibits a child from being found to be within the jurisdiction of the juvenile court solely due to the failure of the child’s parent or alleged parent to pursue court orders seeking custody of the child. act to amend Section 300 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, relating to juveniles.

• SB 92 (Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review) This is a budget trailer bill within the overall 2020-21 budget package with technical changes necessary to implement the realignment of the Division of Juvenile Justice that was included in the 2020 Budget Act. act to amend Section 3056 of the Penal Code, and to amend Sections 208, 208.5, 607, 726, 733.1, 736.5, 1731.5, 1731.6, 1752.1, 1752.15, 1767.35, 1991, and 2250 of, to amend and repeal Sections 704, 707.2, and 1731.7 of, to add Sections 731 and 779.5 to, and to add Article 23.5 (commencing with Section 875) to Chapter 2 of Part 1 of Division 2 of, the Welfare and Institutions Code, relating to juvenile justice, and making an appropriation therefor, to take effect immediately, bill related to the budget.

• SB 383 (Cortese) This bill (1) authorizes a court, if a minor is eligible for deferred entry of judgment (DEJ), but the minor resides in a different county and the case will be transferred to the minor’s county of residence, to adjudicate the case without determining the minor’s suitability for DEJ; (2) authorizes the receiving court to make a determination regarding the minor’s suitability for DEJ if the transferring court did not do so, and to modify the transferring court’s finding accordingly; and (3) makes changes to the eligibility criteria for informal supervision. act to amend Sections 654.3, 790, and 791 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, relating to juveniles.
