Last year, Arciniega counseled Univision Communications Inc. on a variety of matters.
He has been advising Fusion, a joint venture company that Disney/ABC Television Group and Univision formed last fall, on title and brand clearance, as well as prosecution for all of Fusion's television programming. Fusion, a TV and digital network that broadcasts in English, features news, pop culture and satire aimed at young adults. "These are people who have an affinity with the Hispanic culture, but may not necessarily be fluent in Spanish," Arciniega said. He also assisted Univision with the rebranding of its Telefutura network to UniMas; advised on the clearance and branding of its new digital radio platform, Uforia, and Flama, its first online network with original content that is set to launch first on YouTube. He also guided Univision through the completion of its global registration for its core brand. In another matter, Arciniega has been advising philanthropist Peter Thum on his ongoing efforts to get guns off the street. "Peter came across the Democratic Republic of the Congo and he was amazed at the number of automatic and semi-automatic weapons among the general population, because of all the civil wars," Arciniega said. So Thum came up with the idea of exchanging the guns for money, melting the guns down and teaming up with top fashion designers to create jewelry and watches, with the proceeds funneled back to those communities. Arciniega has been counseling Thum on the prosecution and licensing of Fonderie 47, named after the famous weapon, as well as a new venture. After the Sandy Hook school shooting, Thum decided to take his concept stateside, with a brand called Liberty United, teaming up with cities around the country. - Pat Broderick#372503
