Products Liability, Environmental & Consumer Class Actions
After law school, Daniel S. Robinson joined the New York County District Attorney's Office in Manhattan. He was one of 37 prosecutors selected out of over 1,000 applicants.
Robinson is now one of California's most highly sought-after plaintiffs' attorneys known nationwide for his expertise in representing clients in mass torts, product liability and consumer class action cases. Over the past decade, he has assumed crucial leadership roles in high-stakes litigation, securing some of California's most significant settlements and verdicts.
One of the most impactful cases Robinson handled over the past year was an emotionally charged trial that resulted in a rewarding outcome where, despite a meager offer of $150,000 before the trial, he and his co-counsel achieved an impressive $5.2 million verdict for a woman whom an off-duty sheriff's deputy had victimized. Kozy v. County of Orange et al., 30-2019-01062012-CU-PA-CJC, (O.C. Super., filed April 8, 2019).
"This case held great significance as our client's life had been dramatically altered in so many ways. She could no longer lift her grandkids, enjoy her daily hikes, or take part in activities that formed an integral part of her identity," he said.
Explaining noneconomic damages to a jury, particularly in Orange County, is never a small feat. Still, Robinson was able to convey the magnitude of the harm inflicted upon the plaintiff during the closing argument and achieve an outcome that would provide her with much-needed support for the foreseeable future.
Robinson is also dedicated to representing various public entities that are pursuing lawsuits to seek compensation for environmental damages caused by the release of PFAS chemicals into California's water supplies.
Undoubtedly, this case ranks among the largest ones Robinson has handled, second only to the Mandalay Bay shooting cases. In this complex legal battle, Robinson represents numerous municipalities in the Southern California region against prominent manufacturers, notably 3M and DuPont.
After several arduous years of litigation, including motions to dismiss, two groundbreaking global settlements were negotiated in 2023 by Robinson's co-counsel for a staggering $1.85 billion against DuPont and up to $12.5 billion against 3M.
This compensation would encompass all public water systems affected by the defendants' actions across the country. Although Robinson and his clients are still evaluating the settlements, they could hold the promise of delivering meaningful compensation in a significantly shorter time frame than the prolonged litigation that often occurs in such cases.
