USD School of Law dean receives 2023 Bernard E. Witkin Award

University of San Diego School of Law Dean Robert A. Schapiro was honored by the San Diego Law Library Foundation with the Bernard E. Witkin Award for Excellence in Legal Education for 2023.

“I was deeply honored to be introduced by President Harris and included in such a distinguished group of award recipients,” Schapiro said in a statement. “In accepting the award on behalf of USD and the School of Law, I was proud to highlight our commitment to diversity and to advancing the rule of law.”

The awards are given annually by the San Diego Law Library Foundation to individuals in the San Diego legal community who have demonstrated civic leadership, excellence in the practice of law, adjudication of the law, and advancement of access to justice.

Other recipients this year were Judge Dana Makoto Sabraw, who was honored for Excellence in the Adjudication of the Law; San Diego City Attorney Mara W. Elliott, who was honored for Excellence in the Practice of Law; and the Casa Cornelia Law Center, who received their award for Excellence in Public Service.
