Encino • Catastrophic Personal Injury, Insurance Bad Faith & Business Litigation

Boris Treyzon is a partner at Abir Cohen Treyzon Salo, LLP and has a track record of obtaining more than $100 million for his clients in the past 18 months. His achievements earned him recognition as the 2021 Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles Lawyer of the Year.

One of the significant cases Treyzon has led is the Alliance of American Football class action lawsuit, which he filed in 2019. This case took years to complete, as it involved an exhaustive pursuit of justice for the players of the league. The league folded after less than one season, leaving players abandoned, some in the midst of medical care. Initially, there was a settlement of $73 million, followed by a groundbreaking $53 million judgment in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

"In the AAF case, we fought for years to get our clients the justice they deserved. AAF filed for bankruptcy, meaning our legal team had to battle through the bankruptcy courts to get settlements approved," Treyzon said. "In addition, Reggie Fowler, the former minority owner of the Minnesota Vikings and a major investor in the AAF, had defrauded the league. The amount of time and energy spent fighting for the truth, even as league executives were neither forthright nor truthful about the state of the league's finances, was overwhelming at times."

Treyzon added: "The second part of the case, which is still ongoing, is the bankruptcy court adversarial proceeding against the subsequent purchaser of the league that failed to honor the purchase contract."

Another case Treyzon helmed resulted in a $5.9 million verdict in an insurance bad faith trial in Los Angeles Superior Court.

"My clients were homeowners who, like many other policyholders, had their righteous claims delayed and ultimately denied by State Farm. Holding massive insurance companies accountable to their own policies in cases like this helps make California a more just state for everyone," Treyzon said.

In a personal injury trial, Treyzon won a $8.245 million jury verdict for Jorge Guzman, a food truck employee. Guzman was negligently instructed to retrieve a serving table in a manner that put him in harm's way, resulting in him being struck by a car and suffering severe injuries. Guzman was left in a coma for three months and suffered from brain damage, as well as several other serious injuries.

The defendants offered him $200 once Jorge woke from his coma, claiming this was all they felt they owed him. The jury awarded Guzman more than $8 million, including $4.5 million in future medical expenses and $2.4 million in future noneconomic damages.
