Candidates for Los Angeles County Superior Court will make their case on Saturday

There are nine contested races for Superior Court seats in Los Angeles County, including two challenges to incumbents. Several of the candidates for these judicial positions will speak at the free event at Whittier Community Center.

On Saturday, voters will have an opportunity to meet and hear from candidates running in the March election for a seat on the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

"I've been moderating this event for almost 15 years," former U.S. District Judge Robert Bonner said. "It's the only real opportunity for members of the public to see and hear from the candidates. I ask each candidate why they think they would make a good superior court judge."

There are nine contested races for Superior Court seats in Los Angeles County, including two challenges to incumbents. Several of the candidates for these judicial positions will speak at the free event at Whittier Community Center.

Currently, voters do not have many opportunities to learn about judicial candidates outside of Saturday's event, according to Bonner, who formerly chaired the Commission on Judicial Performance. He said he would question candidates about their judicial philosophy, their background and their experience. There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

This event gives people who are really interested in making an informed vote a chance to evaluate, at least at some level, how these judicial candidates answer questions, Bonner said.

"You want to make sure you have good people that become judges. There are 26 candidates for nine seats, so it people should hear them explain which one would make the best judge," Bonner added.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at Whittier Community Center, 7630 Washington Avenue, 90602
