Bobby Samini’s expertise is in handling cases with significant media attention and public interest. During his career, Samini has handled several high-profile matters including representing Donald Sterling in his litigation with the NBA and a former Kuwaiti minister involved in a substantial investment dispute. Both cases garnered international media attention and highlight his expertise in navigating the intricate balance between legal proceedings and media management.
Samini’s work with Donald Sterling, the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, involved a high-stakes legal battle with the NBA, which was not only legally complex but also intensely scrutinized by the public and media. This case required a strategic approach to both legal and public relations challenges, demonstrating Samini’s ability to manage cases under the spotlight effectively.
Similarly, Samini’s representation of the former deputy prime minister and former minister of defense of Kuwait, Khaled Al Jarrah Al Sabah, in ongoing litigation related to a significant investment in Beverly Hills involved complex legal and media-related issues.
“My client had been approached by some folks in Beverly Hills who owned property and wanted to develop it … my client invested $200 million into what he thought was the property, only to later find out that they had absconded with the money and that the property was lost in foreclosure,” Samini said.
In what Samini expected would be a rare case outside of the media limelight, Samini filed suit against the International Churches of Christ on behalf of individuals who suffered years-long sexual abuse as children and adults. Since filing, the case has been widely covered by major media outlets in the US and abroad.
“It’s different from what I normally do,” Samini said. “... It’s been personally rewarding to work on these cases in a more meaningful way.”
He added that plaintiffs are still signing onto the case, which is currently in pre-discovery, and expects about 50 to come forward overall.
Looking forward, Samini recognizes the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the legal field. He points out the pressure to integrate emerging technologies like AI into legal practices, which poses both opportunities and challenges for the future of law.
“We have to incorporate these emerging technologies without sacrificing the human aspect of the practice of law,” said Samini.
