Daniel Petrocelli is a partner and trial practice chair at O’Melveny & Myers LLP, carving a unique space in the realm of litigation. His reputation as the foremost choice for high-stakes legal battles is underpinned by an impressive roster of clients that includes corporate giants, Hollywood elites and celebrated artists and athletes. Petrocelli’s expertise has been showcased in various significant cases, most notably representing Travis Scott in the Astroworld Festival 2021 litigation and defending the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Kesha in a pivotal #MeToo lawsuit.
Petrocelli’s legal prowess extends beyond the courtroom into the strategic realm, where he has secured substantial victories in confidential arbitrations and negotiated critical settlements.
Reflecting on the past few years, he said: “We won very significant victories in confidential arbitrations involving well-known intellectual property for our studio clients. We also achieved important settlements in high-profile cases, including for singer/songwriter Kesha in resolving her long-standing litigation with Dr. Luke.”
His insights into the evolving landscape of litigation emphasize the need for reform.
“Given the vast proliferation of electronic evidence in litigation and the increased burdens, expense, and delay that it causes, the legislatures, courts, and the bar all need to join in formulating and implementing limitations on the discovery process,” Petrocelli said. “Trials must be more accessible.”
In addition to his legal practice, Petrocelli contributes to the legal community through his involvement with prominent legal associations and boards, including the ABA’s Trial Advocacy Board and the Board of Trustees at Southwestern University School of Law. His commitment to the legal field is further reflected in his membership in various sections of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the ABA, the California Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
