In early 2008, when Chris Stanley was in his second year at Santa Clara University School of Law, he knew he faced a tough job market.

So he cast a wide net and stumbled across an opening at investment management firm Loring Ward.

After interviewing with then-General Counsel Steven McGinnis, Stanley was offered a position, and started on tax day in 2008.

"Completely dumb luck, really, is kind of the simplest way to put it," said Stanley.
