Mark Van Vleet, chief legal officer for Fender Musical Instruments, used to have a bumper sticker in his office that read: "You're not much if you're not Dutch."

Rocker Eddie Van Halen eyed the bumper sticker every time he visited Fender's Scottsdale, Ariz., headquarters. One day, Van Vleet gave it to him.
