GOLETA - Robert L. Skinner's move in-house was prompted by a bit of avuncular advice.

While Skinner was doing bankruptcy and business litigation work at White & Case LLP, he was becoming interested in real estate investment.

So he talked to his uncle, Michael Towbes, owner of Santa Barbara-based asset management company the Towbes Group Inc. and sole shareholder of Montecito Bank & Trust, a community bank serving Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
