The recent economic downturn forced St. Joseph Health System to slash expenses in its legal department, requiring General Counsel Shannon G. Dwyer to reduce the number of in-house attorneys by nearly two thirds and trim its list of 40 outside law firms to two.
The transition was one of the most challenging tasks of her career but also one of the most rewarding, Dwyer said.
