Summary

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to review Petrella v. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., a case from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals involving a copyright infringement lawsuit over the movie Raging Bull. The daughter of a writer claimed that the movie had been based on her father's work, in collaboration with a retired boxer. However, despite renewing her copyrights in 1991, the daughter did not file suit against MGM until 2009. The district court held that her delay was unreasonable and ruled against her. The 9th Circuit upheld that decision, finding that her various stated reasons for the delay were not supported by any evidence.
