At the May 2019 investiture of 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Eric D. Miller, then Chief Judge Sidney R. Thomas made a joke as he invited Miller to the podium to take the oath of office administered by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, for whom Miller clerked.
"Eric, are you willing?" Thomas asked. "You don't need a Miranda warning or anything?"
