LOS ANGELES - On a seemingly normal February afternoon, Superior Court Judge Victor E. Chavez was winding down day three of a jury trial regarding alleged fraud in hotel investments. Five hotels made a ton of money but the sixth was a financial disaster, triggering accusations of foul play.
