LOS ANGELES - The political bug struck Bob Vanderet at an early age.

Vanderet was in junior high school when he joined the Young Democrats - just in time to see John F. Kennedy elected president.

He took a semester off during his junior year at UCLA to work on Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign. Within months, Kennedy was dead.
