DOWNEY - Ray Jurado grew up in gritty East Los Angeles. Sports - and tight-knit family ties - kept him out of gangs.
With the encouragement of Jurado's uncles, the kids in the neighborhood chose up sides year round for basketball, football and baseball. Uncle Ron Godinez took the Vin Scully role, calling the play-by-play.
