      SAN FRANCISCO - California's newest appellate justice just finished a decade presiding over a hectic calendar in Alameda County Superior Court. Now, he's crossing the Bay every day, to a job with a more-measured schedule in San Francisco, where he has ample time to read and research the finer points of the law.
