VISTA - Boredom drove Judge Jacqueline Stern to law school. A former junior high-school teacher in Detroit's inner city, the independent-minded Stern and her husband sold their home in the late 1970s and toured Europe for four months in a Volkswagen camper with four small children. The youngest was 3.
