LOS ANGELES - Judge Stephen A. Marcus owes his first job to the mob - or at least its nefarious influence on police officers, politicians and judges.
As a newly minted New York lawyer in the mid-1970s, Marcus landed a position with the Office of the Special State Prosecutor. The elite agency, housed on the 57th floor of the World Trade Center, investigated corruption in New York City's criminal justice system.... (continued)
