LOS ANGELES - Lee Smalley Edmon was on a hospital stretcher about to give birth to her first child when her big and bulky cell phone rang. It was a frantic client from The Walt Disney Co.

That she was in labor didn't faze the man, who wanted to talk about case settlement strategy.

"I just told him, 'I'm a bit busy having a baby now,' we're going to have to talk about this more later."
