DOWNEY - Judge John H. Ing was 5 or 6 and "3-foot-something-or-other," he said, when he started heaving balls at the old wooden basketball stand in his backyard.
"The ball must have been almost as big as I was," Ing said.
Every day after school, he'd shoot hoops until it was time for dinner.
