LOS ANGELES - Superior Court Judge Mark V. Mooney stands in his chambers and points to a six-inch stack of documents that sit atop his desk.

"I don't know when I saw something like this in a criminal case," Mooney said, flashing a grin.

The civil filing to which he referred contained 22 motions and was just another reminder of how Mooney's work life has changed.
