RIVERSIDE - After 27 years of guiding spouses through dicey divorces as a lawyer, Judge Irma Poole Asberry thought she had family law down to a science. So Asberry said she was surprised to realize she still had a lot to learn when she got her family law judicial assignment two years ago.

She said she was fuzzy on issues, including domestic violence restraining orders.
