SACRAMENTO - Judge Kevin R. Culhane didn't go around hopping freight trains with his long-time law partner, who made a habit out of the risky practice with a group of friends.

The reason is pretty simple: Culhane stayed home by the phone in case his partner needed an attorney to bail him and his friends out.
