SAN DIEGO - Carolyn M. Caietti was fresh out of the University of San Diego School of Law in 1986 and only six months into her first job when a trial was dropped in her lap.
Caietti was learning the fine art of insurance law at what was then the San Diego law firm of Shifflet, Sharp & Walters when she was asked to defend a case involving a woman who blamed a property defect for her fall at a garage sale.
