Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen rises at 2:30 a.m., so that he can start lifting weights by 3 a.m.

Perhaps lawyers have that in mind when they arrive extra early to his courtroom.

"I start at 8:30," Coen said. "Be on time. I reward the lawyers who show up on time by calling their case first - it's first come, first serve."
