SAN BERNARDINO - John M. Pacheco decided the law was his true calling after he and his father were involved in an accident when he was 13. The two were hauling a load of trash to the dump in an old truck, and the brakes failed. The truck coasted into a busy intersection, where a cement truck struck it.

The cement company successfully sued his father for its driver's injuries.
