CHICO — A few years ago, Butte County Commissioner David E. Gunn’s wife started ordering checks without his name on them.
It’s all part of spending 22 years on the bench in the same small city. He even understands when his wife of 37 years sometimes denies being related to him, in response to questions from grocery clerks or others who have passed through his courtroom.
