POMONA — Judge Rubiya Nur cleared many hurdles on her path to the bench, including an abusive marriage.

“I got married when I was 15,” she said. “It was an arranged marriage.”

When she had her second child at 19, Nur fled her native Bangladesh with her children and her parents. Her husband tracked her down in California, but she successfully separated through the courts.
