
SAN JOSE -- The transition from attorney to judge is not always a smooth one, as Carrie A. Zepeda, a well-regarded Santa Clara County deputy county counsel, discovered after her appointment two years ago to the Superior Court bench.
Within 12 months of her appointment, Zepeda found herself the target of numerous peremptory challenges by defense attorneys, forcing those cases to be reassigned to other judges.
