BAKERSFIELD — Judge John Brownlee knew from a young age he was adopted at birth, which is one reason he enjoys presiding over National Adoption Day in Kern County.

“My adopted parents were wonderful, salt of the earth people,” he said. “As I sign the paperwork, I’m hoping that each one of the children will be as lucky as I was.”
