BAKERSFIELD - Kern County Superior Court Judge John R. Brownlee says he hit the jackpot when he was born. A physician and his wife adopted him.

Brownlee was wanted, he tells adoptees on National Adoption Day each November. So are they.

"They want you to be a part of their family," he said he tells the children who appear before him.
