Commissioner Susan Slater aims to turn troubled teens' lives around

VICTORVILLE — While it’s important for teens to make it to class on time, there are tardiness exceptions in Commissioner Susan F. Slater’s courtroom for juvenile defendants commuting from the farthest reaches of San Bernardino County.

“If the kid’s not here yet and it’s time to start, but mom has called and said they’re on the way from Needles, we’re going to make allowances and wait for him to get here,” Slater said.
