Atlantique Productions S.A. sued Ion Media Networks Inc. Atlantique was a French corporation that produced international television drama series. Ion was a television network that broadcast in the United States.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Atlantique produced a television series, and then negotiated with Ion over the U.S. rights to the series. Atlantique later claimed that Ion breached its contract, and filed suit.
Atlantique asserted causes of action for breach of contract, promissory estoppel, unjust enrichment and fraud.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Ion moved for summary judgment, arguing that the parties never entered into a valid contract because they had not signed an agreement.
Result
The trial court granted summary judgment for Ion on all of Atlantique's claims.
Other Information
Atlantique also moved for summary judgment but its motion was denied. The proposed license fee in issue was $4 million, according to defendants.
