Facts
Plaintiff Los Angeles Unified School District sought to condemn property in Los Angeles in order to build the Central Region Elementary School No. 19 and Early Education Center. The owners of the property were defendants De Young Kim and Hyon K. Kim. Defendants CashCall Inc.; Creditors Adjustment Bureau inc.; California Department of Employment; and the county of Los Angeles were listed as lienholders.
Commonwealth Business Bank was the beneficiary of a promissory note and Old Republic Title Company was a trustee on a deed of trust on the property.
The complaint was filed on June 22, 2006.
Result
The settlement amounted to a total of $5.6 million, which was awarded to defendants De Young Kim and Hyon K. Kim, save $1,406 to defendant county of Los Angeles for unpaid property taxes and $92 to defendant Creditors Adjustment Bureau Inc. Defendant California Department of Employment was dismissed on July 11, 2007. Defendant Hyon Kim was able to prove that she was not the person identified in the CashCall judgment.
