On Dec. 25, 2012, plaintiffs Gary Doebereiner, Lynn Butler and Justin Lightfoot, a minor, were rear ended by defendant Monica Choi on the I-5 northbound near Barranca Parkway in Irvine while returning after a holiday party.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs claimed that defendant collided with plaintiffs' vehicle as she was changing lanes.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant driver admitted liability.

Medical specials for all plaintiffs combined was less than $100,000.

Injuries

Gary Doebereiner, a 57-year-old unemployed electrician, claimed significant neck and back injuries, eliminating his ability to return to employment as an electrician. He claimed a significant lost earnings claim. Lynn Butler, a 67-year-old commercial property manager, claimed torn anterior cruciate ligament. Justin Lightfoot, a 16-year-old student, claimed a facial laceration near his nose that required minimal repair, with largely unnoticeable scarring. Lightfoot was also treated for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Result

Nearly two months before trial, plaintiffs settled for the full policy limits of $1.5 million from defendant driver.
