Jennifer Perez brought a qui tam action against Stericycle Inc., provider of regulated medical waste management services and pharmaceutical returns services. Perez was a government customer-relations specialist for Stericycle.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Perez contended that Stericycle violated the False Claims Act by improperly increasing its service price to certain government customers without their consent or contractual authorization, resulting in approximately $13.57 million in overpayment for services and products.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Stericycle denied wrongdoing.

Result

The parties settled for $28.5 million.
