Facts

Kinetic Concepts Inc. (KCI) acquired patents for negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) used to treat open skin wounds.

KCI filed suit against Smith & Nephew, which also sold a wound therapy product, alleging patent infringement.

Contentions

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Smith & Nephew contended that the patents were invalid based on obviousness.

Result

After a jury found patent infringement, KCI filed request for injunctive relief. The judge denied KCI's request, finding KCI's patent claims were invalid.
