Facts

Plaintiffs were the biological children of decedent Andy Ryan. Plaintiffs filed suit against various defendants in regard to their father's death.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs contended that their father was exposed to chemical products during his employment as a California Highway Patrol Officer. Specifically, decedent used the products to perform vehicle inspections. These products, which were manufactured and/or supplied by defendants, caused him toxic injuries such as large B-cell lymphoma, occupational diseases, and death. With respect to defendant Lawson Products Inc., plaintiffs claimed that it manufactured and/or supplied "The Stripper," which contained the carcinogen methylene chloride.

In their second amended complaint for wrongful death from toxic injuries, plaintiffs asserted causes of action for negligence, strict liability-failure to warn, and strict liability-design defect.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Lawson Products Inc. contended in its motion for summary judgment that plaintiffs could not establish causation because they provided no admissible evidence that decedent worked with or around the Lawson product at issue, "The Stripper."

Result

The court granted Lawson Product's motion.
