Facts

Hung Ly tripped and fell over boxes on the stairs in the common area of a property she was renting from Trinh Le. Ly filed suit against Le, alleging that Le failed to properly maintain the area, creating a dangerous condition. She claimed that there was insufficient lighting for her to see the cardboard boxes as she used the stairs.

Le claimed that the lighting was sufficient and the boxes were an open and obvious hazard.

Injuries

Ly suffered a fractured orbital bone, a concussion, and significant lacerations on her face. She was given over 200 stitches to her face and underwent surgery to repair the bone.

Result

The parties settled for $300,000.
