Facts

Calla Felicity and her mother were eating a barbeque chicken pizza at Round Table Pizza in South San Francisco when a 1.2-inch chicken bone injured her. Felicity sued Round Table Pizza Inc., Pizza Bytes Inc., and Foster Poultry Farms for damages due to the injuries she suffered. Pizza Bytes was the franchisee for Round Table and Foster Farms provided the chicken strips to the restaurant.

Injuries

The chicken bone lodged in her throat, perforating her esophagus and causing an injury which later became infected. Felicity required 14 surgeries and spent months using feeding tubes and consuming a liquid diet.

Result

The jury found Foster Farms and Pizza Bytes negligent, and awarded Felicity $2 million in damages for pain and suffering and nearly half a million for medical expenses.
