Ali Arastu was driving northbound on Interstate 880 in Alameda County on Nov. 2, 2007, when his vehicle was rear-ended by a van, driven by Hector Lopez, after Arastu stopped for traffic.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Arastu filed suit against Lopez, alleging motor vehicle negligence.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Lopez admitted liability, but contested Arastu's injuries.

Damages

Arastu sought $4,594 in past medical bills, as well as $30,000 for future medical expenses, and $50,000 in pain and suffering damages.

Injuries

Arastu claimed he suffered impingement to his left shoulder, as well as soft-tissue neck and back injuries, and underwent physical therapy.
