Facts
DNT, LLC had a technology patent on an improved auto dialer. Several wireless carriers sold modem cards used for Internet access in conjunction with subscriber laptops.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
DNT filed suit against U.S. Cellular, Sprint-Nextel, Verizon Wireless, AllTel Communications, T-Mobile, and Novatel Wireless, alleging patent infringement.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
The wireless carriers denied the allegations, contending that DNT's patent did not include cellular communications or modems, and did not explain how to make modem cards. The carriers further contended that the patent failed to fully describe the full scope of the claimed invention pertaining to wireless communications.
Damages
DNT sought $170 million, as well as injunctive relief.
Result
The jury rendered a verdict for the defense and found that the patent was not infringed.
