Ernest Grossich squatted on two acres of abandoned land owned by Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
The City of Colton, which leased the land from the railroad, filed suit against Grossich seeking an ouster.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Grossich alleged that he had the rights to the easement after living there for decades.

Result

The court allowed Grossich to stay on the property, but ordered him to pay $50,000 in damages.
