Facts

Lt. Robin Heinemann, the highest-ranking woman in the Concord Police Department and a 22-year department veteran, sued the City of Contra Costa alleging discrimination at the police department.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF CONTENTIONS:
Heinemann contended that she and female officers were powerless in a "de facto hierarchy" based upon a "presumption of male supremacy." The complaint also alleged that the department was "rife with overt hostility and disparate treatment toward female officers."

Result

The City decided to settle the matter and pay $150,000 to Heinemann and an additional confidential amount, and attorney fees to resolve her related workers' compensation claim.
