Facts
Global Education Services Inc. filed a class action against LiveDeal Inc. fka YP Corporation dba YP.Com, YP.Net, Yellow-Page Net, and Telco Billing Inc. for enrolling unwitting Washington state consumers into an advertising program. The complaint alleged that the Defendants sent unsolicited "Activation Checks" to consumers, without adequately disclosing that cashing the check would result in the purchase of online advertising services. The consumers were then charged for those services and the fees were collected via a monthly fee through the consumer's telephone bill. The complaint alleged that this practice violated the Consumer Protection Act of Washington.
Result
Without admitting any wrongdoing, the Defendants agreed to settle the matter by providing $70 cash to each eligible class member.
