Facts

George Hotz, 21, a hacker known as Geohot, published information on his website which allowed end users of Sony's PlayStation 3 to install unsigned third party applications on the system. Sony filed an action against Hotz, alleging intellectual property violations and seeking an injunction.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff alleged that defendant's actions allowed PS3 owners to play copied video games.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant asserted that California lacked jurisdiction over his person and that his conduct was legal.

Result

The parties reached a settlement under which Hotz agreed to discontinue similar conduct.
